Knives 5" to 8"

Here we find the knives and daggers that we consider to be of "middling" size, although in modern times these would be considered quite large by most folks. To a swordsmith, however, these still qualify as pretty darn tiny, though at least they have passed the threshold into usefulness. Actually, the smaller knives are quite useful for their intended tasks, while these medium size knives are typically intended as a multi-purpose tool and weapon. A knife in this range is large enough to take on larger tasks (such as tavern brawlers), but not so large as to be inconvenient to carry... as long as you don't find jail time inconvenient. I mention this since this size knife is illegal to carry in most states unless you are heading out into the woods to go hunting. Daggers in this size are a particular no-no, but I guess that is simply because a guy with a 5" dagger is clearly more dangerous than a guy with a limbing axe from the hardware store... perhaps I will strangle my sarcasm there and leave you to your enjoyment of the knives.
