One-Handed & Viking Swords

The single-handed sword was historically used almost exclusively in one of two ways: on horseback or on foot in conjunction with a shield. In later years as the single-handed swords evolved into rapiers and smallswords, the shield was discarded in favor of a parrying dagger, but for many centuries the sword and shield fighting style was widespread throughout a substantial portion of the world. Within this gallery we have a variety of single-handed swords, including some short swords, and in almost every case it would be best to imagine them alongside a shield of some kind, since this is how you would have seen them on the field of battle.
